Federico Fazio
Federico Fazio has been seen as the alternative after Spurs have been left frustrated in their attempts to sign Mateo Mussachio from Villarreal. Though both players are notably different in style, Fazio would prove to be a good signing at White Hart Lane and an excellent partner for Jan Vertonghen.
The Argentine struggled for form in previous years but has dramatically improved of late, helping Sevilla to victory in the Europa League last season. He lacks pace but has improved on his reading of the game and would be a good addition to an unstable back line at Tottenham.
Morgan Schneiderlin
Morgan Schneiderlin is on Tottenham’s summer wish list, but the club have thus far been unable to meet Southampton’s valuation of the French midfielder.
Schneiderlin has made his feelings about a move known, and despite featuring for the club in the Premier League this season, the matter isn’t yet closed.
We know Daniel Levy’s likening for deals late in the window, and a move for Schneiderlin may not be off the table at this point. There is likely to be further negotiations for the French international as the window draws to a close.
Alex Song
Barcelona are desperate to get rid of Alex Song this summer. In fact, it boils down to a general indifference to the Cameroon international, to the point where they see little use in him sticking around. The club are willing to listen to offers, reportedly, both loan deals and permanent transfers amounting to little in the way of a fee.
Song has been linked with a move back to the Premier League and could be an alternative to Morgan Schneiderlin for Tottenham. He knows the English top flight well and could be a help at White Hart Lane, both in midfield and at centre-back.
Loic Remy
Loic Remy may have failed his medical at Liverpool, but that doesn’t mean the French striker can’t still move on from QPR in the coming week.
Remy has been on Tottenham’s radar in the past while Harry Redknapp was in charge, and having come so close to a move this summer, now may be the perfect time for Spurs to finally land the French international.
He’s adjusted well to life in the Premier League, first with QPR and then on loan at Newcastle. If Tottenham are looking to add further firepower, Remy would be a good buy for the club, unlikely to command an eye-watering fee.
Javier Hernandez
There have been a number of clubs across England and Europe linked with a move for Javier Hernandez, and Tottenham have been in the mix as one of the possible destinations.
The Mexican international looks set to struggle for minutes at Manchester United once Louis van Gaal has a fully fit squad, and having missed out on a starting spot for his national team at the World Cup, Hernandez may feel that this is the right time to move on.
Spurs would face competition from major clubs in Italy, but there’s little doubt that the Mexican would improve their fortunes in front of goal. A run of games may be all that’s needed to see Hernandez hit the form of his first season in English football.
