da bwin: Bolton defender Gary Cahill has admitted that he is happy to be included in the England squad, as it has provided a welcome distraction to the uncertainty over his club future.
The centre back has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, with the North London duo failing in attempts to sign him in the summer.
With Cahill’s contract running out in June 2012, The Trotters are expecting renewed interest from the Premier League big boys come January, and the chance to represent his country is taking Cahill’s mind off a possible transfer.
“It’s been a rollercoaster season for me, and it’s been really tough at club level,” he told Mirror Football.
“But at international level it’s been great, as we’ve qualified and done really well. It’s been difficult personally. I need to get back fully focused and play the way I know I can.”
Cahill is expected to start England’s first friendly against Spain at the heart of Fabio Capello’s defence on Saturday, and will be given added responsibility due to the absence of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand.
